Unshielded twisted pair cables are widely used in Ethernet. As the name suggests, the twisted pair in the cable is unshielded. Eight individual copper wires (22 or 24 gauge) are twisted into four pairs to limit signal damage caused by electromagnetic interference. UTP cables must comply with the specification, which specifies the number of twists allowed within the specified length. The relatively small diameter of the cable is advantageous during installation. The cable has a speed and throughput of 10 to 1000 Mbps, making it the most cost-effective network cable.
